Awesome Elephants : Pilanesburg : South Africa

Euston Station London ……… I am sitting on board a Virgin Train about to pull away from the platform ……. I can remember being here as a youth ….. turning up for demonstrations in Hyde Park …….. coming up to London as a student ……. This station has changed but it hasn’t changed that much …….. I can see myself staring up at those old school arrival and departure boards ……… I was awed by the possibility of all those places …….. the giant travel hub of possible destinations that Euston represented …….. All those Northern cities……… I guess its me thats changed…….. it seems kind of small now ……. back then it was giant and full of possibilities …….. all those amazing destinations on the boards ……. Now I can picture them all …… I have been to them all …….. yesterday I was in Dubai looking up at the screens ……. that seems to be a massive hub with all those Emirates planes flying all over the world ……. calling flights to Tehran and Sao Paulo ……. thats a travel hub that can still kind of awe me ……….. Mind you …… Euston station still deserves a little more respect and awe than I am managing this morning ………. I preferred the youthful me’s response to this place…………

Talking of generating a little awe …….. Here above is a picture of some of the awesome beautiful giant beasts of South Africa …….. Elephants … they really are properly awesome in an absolutely correct use of a rather over used word …….. and just in case I might have been thinking of getting a little casual about their complete awesomeness ……. A totally giant one chased me down a mountain road ……. me and max and my rental Mercedes were forced to do a little of that 40 mph mega fast backwards driving down a bumpy unmade mountain track that we all love …….. now that massive Bull elephant was so totally awesome and magnificent and full-on aggressive that there was simply no time to photograph and reverse at top speed ….. so here is a female (with just a hint of her calf her calf) …… being interested and awesome……. but luckily not as aggressively hostile as that giant male ……. :-))))))) XXXXXX

Happy New Year !!!!! ……… have a completely awesome year in 2015 :-))))))))))))))))))) …….. hehehehehe……… :-))))))) XXXXXXXXXXXX

Cheers Jez XXXXXXX

  • Euston was a station I regularly used while at college, I hated it because the people were just so rude. London was always a rude city, but for some reason the train stations seemed to have more. It drove me nuts the amount of people who would bang into my camera bag and knock it off my shoulder…then they would keep walking without a word.
I’d stand and stare at that massive board trying not to think of the 7 hour trip back to Glasgow, not my favourite place in London.
    Anyway…Happy New year lol.

  • Yes I am not sure I would rate it as one of my favorite places in London……… but in the past it had that sense of possibilities in terms of travel ….. the possibility of going to Glasgow, Manchester or Bradford ……. Leeds or Hull……. I wanted to go to them all :-)) Normally I was only going to Brum ……. but I once took a train to Stranrar ……. thats a long way …… and I have in the dim and distant past taken the train to Glasgow ……… and u r right about most commuters they really r on auto pilot not given to polite or even human behavior …….. but still I was happy enough to be back at Euston ….. it takes me back to our student days Harv hehehehehe …….. :-)))))Happy New Year bro :-))))))) XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • Hey, welcome home! Euston, huh, wasn’t that where the sleeper left for the Scottish Highlands? That was the thing – at this time of year leaving grey, wet, cold London and waking up on Rannoch Moor – covered with snow, blue skies…. No elephants but those deer could get a bit feisty…:-)

  • Well, I only made it as far as Rugby to see my folks …… The sleeper to Scotland…… the sleeper to Cornwall …… the sleeper to Austria I have taken a few …….. I would love to go up as far as Scotland I have not taken a sleeper train for 20 years ? Can that be right? ….. I love walking up there. I love the light …… the stags on the horizon …… I ,love the Western Isles …… one of these days I am gonna go even further and move to the Shetland Isles ….. hehehehe……. well maybe…..I have photographed in some of the grimmer bits of urban Scotland too …. some of that was very depressing ……… I remember watching a policeman pour out the alcohol of a very poor alcoholic man then hand him back his empty bottle ……. the sheer misery and desperation in that ……

Yes Scotland is one of those end to end places ………

What are u up to at the mo bro ………..? Hope you are gonna have a great 2015 :-))))))))

  • Well, I only got as far as Newcastle and now I’m headed back to the Smoke for a few days…. Shetlands huh? A step too far for me…. I’ll be getting Falklands flashbacks :-)). Had a mad, mental 2014 messing with the photo-dialogue thing… Hopefully 2015 will be more relaxed (?)…. Lining up a few good photo projects that I’m looking forward to… Go well, mate 🙂 Lets see if our paths briefly collide this year!!!
