I went to the same college so I guess I must have started on notebooks there but I kinda remember BG in the Insight office with his crazed writing influencing me too …….. here are some mad pages from my current notebook :-))))))))

fir s t week at Medway our photogr aphy y ear got mix ed up with other ar t dept by mis tak e, and
we ended up in a lec tur e whic h was n’t meant for us …it was about k eeping s k etc hbook
s , people who didn’t c ome fr om an ar t bac k gr ound lik e Mor r is wer en’t happy about
it…then s omeone ar r iv ed halfway thr ough to s ay we wer e in the wr ong lec tur e and to
ignor e any thing that was s aid as it was n’t for us , lol.

I r eally hated Medway , all I wanted was to lear n what I c ould and get out…I met s ome inter
es ting people along the way , but I
don’t hav e fond memor ies of that plac e. Do y ou r emember that little hatc h wher e y ou got
equipment to us e, the equipment s tor e
?…this is how fr us tr ating, annoy ing and pointles s I found Medway College…I found out that
they had a Leic a M6 in the s tor e, I’d nev er us ed a Leic a r angefinder s o I wanted to tr y
it out. ( whic h s eems lik e a r eas onable thing to want?) I was told I’d need per mis s ion
fr om the head of the photo dept( G eor ge) to get that c amer a, s omething y ou didn’t need for
Nik ons or Mamiy as …I as k ed him, he s aid why do y ou want it ?, I told him and he s aid it
was n’t a good enough r eas on and r efus ed to giv e it to me ?
I nev er did tr y that Leic a, I us ed one for the fir s t time while as s is ting, one of the
photogr apher s I wor k ed with had one. I lear nt mor e in two months of as s is ting than I did
in two y ear s at Medway …oh well.

……. enough to do y our br ains in
…….. G eor ge and Kev in and all that weir d per s onal inter r elations hips v er y odd and
as that ex ample y ou giv e points out weir dly c ounter pr oduc tiv e and petty …….but for
me I s till enjoy ed it any way ….. we had little dealings with G eor ge….. I felt
Keith alway s meant well and s ome of the par ttime people wer e good……. T he main thing for me
was I was for the fir s t time s ur r ounded by people who lov ed photogr aphy it was the
fellow s tudents and fr iends not r eally the c our s e…… but the c our s e fac
ilitated us all getting together and obs es s ing……………. Bill G r een, Dav e Chanc ellor
Neil T ur ner Dav id S Smith Mik e Cooper Mar c oSor entino ……. all folk s who went on to be
photogr apher s it was br illiant for me jus t to hav e a pile of fr iends who lov ed photogr aphy
……… s o I think about the plac e gener ous ly but I k now what y ou mean…. I r eally bec
ame a photogr apher wor k ing at Repor t/IF L the c ollege s tuff was n’t enough…. but I s till
hav e a war m feeling about it, muc h mor e than y ou I think , I lik ed it…. but it c er tainly
had mor e than a few limitations thats for s ur e :­ ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) Ah well I would lik e to
be 20 again and mes s ing about bac k at c ollege ther e was alway s the Nags Head and all our fr
iends in the fas hion dept to mak e it fun too :­ ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) )
