  • Color space is an issue, I suppose. There are a number of basic digital darkroom techniques necessary to really do justice to digital images. I’ve noticed, looking through your blog portfolio here, that many of your pictures have little to no post processing. This has led to a flatness of color and a degrading of what could have been images of greater aesthetic and visual impact. It’s worth learning some of these techniques, and essential I believe if you are professional. Also, I note you use the US spelling of the word ‘color’, when you are in fact a Brit and should be using the spelling ‘colour’, don’t you think. Your language is your inheritance and our good luck. So don’t let us bully you! We do enough of that round the world as it is.

  • Kevin and Tom, Thanks for your comments! Yes I love a bit of ‘forced perspective’ in an image its probably one of my most overused techniques! Color space seems only to really be an issue for me when Im required to deliver my pictures in the ECI-RGB modus. Neil T (www.dg28.com) without reference to anything talked me through where to get the necessary photoshop plug in download it then make it work. You are right I am reluctant to go crazy in photoshop…..I prefer to not fiddle and have a straight image……. like an old style photojournalistic transparency……. all done in the camera…..it suits better my philosophy…. but I do recognize the almost necessity of some post processing techniques and the improvements they can make to the final image……. therefore……. you are right I probably should put aside my purist reportage sensibilities. Er………. Color?……. Colour?…………. Recognize? …… Recognise?………….Im a casual exponent of the British accent and to some degree European spelling………but I have a bit of a when in Rome…….. do as the Romans….. thing goin on……… and my spell check automatically corrects me to American spelling (if I allow it) when I am writing ………. so in written form I tend toward politeness to my hosts ……. which I hasten to point out…………. Brits would like to think…………… is a British trait in itself…………. That said, I still maintain a whole ton of British terminology especially spoken……… I find it impossible to call ‘crisps’ ‘chips’ and confusingly like to refer to the ‘boot’ not the ‘trunk’ of a car and I like to say ‘cheers’ as I depart…………….. Cheers JC XX

  • Question: Where exactly did you download the photoshop plug-in for ECI-RGB thingy? Someone asked me to deliver a picture last week in ECI-RGB modus (?) and I hadn’t a clue how to do it. What exactly did your friend Neil advise? Gary. 🙂

  • JC This is what it’s about http://www.eci.org/eci/en/044_working_colour_spaces.php call me tonight and I’ll explain how to put it into practice. Neil. Hey Gary thanx for checking out the blog: This is what Neil sent. I then talked to him on the phone and it all just worked……… it would not have done for me with out the phone call I have to say………..the link he gives an explanation……at the bar on the side of the page it says downloads…….if you click through to that…….it has lists of color space plugins hopefully you will be able to choose the correct one that you need…….er………if you are having difficulty I can only suggest you do what i did and ask Neil. He very generously helps people mostly professionals if you were to send him a polite request through his website (blame me) www.dg28.com Im pretty sure he will magic up the answer. Good Luck JC XX
