Ok so thats probably enough of US and UK winter …….. :-/ :-)) time to head for the Far East in the hot season 🙂 ………. I shall be temporarily in China then in pretty rapid succession Vietnam and The Philippines …….. Just chucking stuff in bags … as ever… for wheels up later today …….. - The weather looking a little like the UK version of Sahara smog here but a little more sweaty with it ……. Im at Gaungzhou airport matey……..Its weird watching movies on a flight ………….. when you are flying there is nothing else to do ………. no distractions (sort of) ………. and you are very close to the screen wearing headphones ………. sometimes that can lead to a more intense experience of the movie ……….. I distinctly remember years ago watching a remake of the 39 Steps ………. with steam trains and beautiful luscious green British countryside…….. it was an idealized view of between the wars Britain …….. with an engaging plot ………. I was loving the greenness and the archetypal feeling of Britain…….. I had been away in the Middle East for a month already at that stage I guess I was a little homesick ……… as the Movie ended i realized with a sudden shock I was about to land in Karachi Pakistan …….. I was gonna have to get my head in gear fast for a totally different culture ……….. I just had a similar thing happening today watching XXXXXX it was vividly depicting New York of the 70’s …… I was loving that archetypal feeling of New York City ……. then I suddenly realized without the movie even having time to finish……. we were about to land in Gaundzhou China ……… time to get my head in gear for a completely different culture :-)))))))))))
On the ground here ……… its a funny mix of old style China and the mega new ……. not quite built therefore all passengers must take a packed bus from the plane……. security……. and the expected grim toilets …………. contrasting with mega mega Boeing Dream Liners lined up as far as the eye can see …… a smarter fleet of planes I don’t remember seeing ………….. on the screens here in the airport it seems to be a bit of a dichotomy too ……… what appear to be depressing public information films reminding you to look after your aging parents ……… and ultra aspirational but for me also kind of depressing advertisements for diamond jewelry and mega cars.
