T oday I ended up helping a dr iv er r ather than s hooting ……. I was watc hing a New Yor k
City y ellow c ab dr iv er c hanging a wheel bec aus e of flat …… he was an elder ly c hap s
eemed to be s tr uggling a little s aid he felt weak bec aus e he was fas ting ……. s o I nev er
ended up with a s ho of the tax i with the wheel off …… bec aus e by that s tage I was doing it
for him ….. : ) ) …… Reminded me of this inc ident abov e but the othe way r ound …….. I
s hot this pic tur e abov e the day befor e I c ame bac k to the US ……. I was jus t das hing up
to v is it my folk s in the Midland befor e leav ing the UK ………… As I dr ov e nor th I s aw
s mok e and flames c oming fr om a c ar on the har d s houlder of the M1 ……. no emer genc
people wer e ther e ……. no one els e was s topped the c ar s eemed be jus t bur ning with no
one ther e …… I as s umed the dr iv er was s till ins id
…….. I pulled up jumped out r an ov er to the c ar …….. then a man c alled to me fr om the
top of the bank …….. it was his c ar he as s ur ed me n one els e was ins ide ……… it had
jus t s tar ted bur ning as he dr ov e along ……….. s o he had pulled up got out …….. and
phoned the fir e br igad fr om the s afety of the top of the gr as s bank ……. in that minute of
s peak ing the c ar s tar ted to r eally bur n ……. it would be plain s illy to attemp to appr
oac h it if it wer e not c r itic al to s av e a life …….. s o ther e was nothing to do but tak
e a few pic tur es s o I took the c amer as fr om my c a and made a few fr ames ……. ev entually
the c ops tur ned up….. and the fir e br igade……… s o i thought I ought to r oll …… or
r ather they thought ought to r oll : ) ) ) hehehehe…….. In that one I had ex pec ted to help
and not s hoot …….. in this one today I had ex pec ted to s hoot and not hel

had gone differ ently ……… when I s aw this c ar it was jus t in the ear ly s tages of bur
ning ther e was s till time ……. I k new that……. I thought it will be differ ent this time
…… I r us hed up to that c ar ……. but I c an tell y ou I was s o glad the dr iv er was alr
eady out no need for a dr amatic r es c ue …… I k new ther e was s till may be 30 s ec onds or
a minute befor e it was a pr oper fir eball and I was glad to be able to r etr eat …….. I would
not tak e thos e k ind of r is k s to attempt to s av e a bur ning c ar no way …… but I think
if ther e is a c hanc e to s av e the dr iv er ……. well in the ear ly s tages its got to be wor
th it…… I would lik e to think may be s omeone would tr y to do the s ame for me ……… I
think I wr ote this abov e mor e c as ually than I felt at the time ……. my adr enaline was
pumping as I appr oac hed the c ar I was think ing about how to put the fir e out if their c
lothes wer e on fir e blah blah…….. I c an tell u I was r eally glad t r etr eat and happily
tak e out a c amer a hehehe………

entuality was one of the few things it was ins ur ed agains t …….. they woulda thought thats
far too c onv ienient a thing to happen to it…….. they woulda s melt a r at for s ur e …….

bur ning on the news in G az a or Belfas t or wher e hav e u …… mos t of thos e c ar s at one s
tage had been r ented by me : / : ) …… c aus ed a bit of a pr oblem with r enting fr om Her
tz wor ldwide for a while ……. but it has n’t happened for a good while now …… touc h
